Born in 1982 in Cluj, Romania
In 1990 she migrated with her family to Austria as a
political refugee after the fall of the Ceaușescu regime.
Based in Reykjavik and Vienna
The work of Maria- Magdalena Ianchis covers a broad spectrum of media that includes
photography, video, sound, objects, installation, performance, and interactive projects. Her
current works focus on anthropogenic climate change and its manifestation in the melting
of our glaciers. Given the fatal economic, social, and ecological developments, any form of
standing by passively and watching is called into question. The leitmotifs of her artistic
exploration include phenomena that are not directly tangible physically, such as myths,
legends, the world of dreams, and the inner world of human beings. Maria- Magdalena
Ianchis has participated in many international solo and group exhibitions.
